I was honoured to be invited to speak at an event related to female health in the workplace. I was joined by a panel of other professionals (a physiotherpaist, psychologist and representatives from a range of charities).
I described the common issues I see as a gynaecologist and briefly touched on how they are managed and how this may affect a woman in the workplace. It was wonderful to know of the policies in place to support women with various health issues and the flexible working patterns also available.
We also spoke about barriers to discussing female health in the workplace. I feel quite priviledged within my speciality (dominated by women!) to freely speak about womens health issues. This must be very challenging in other environments, particularly if extra support is needed to function optimally in the workplace.
At the end of the day, we all want to bring our best to work each day – our best minds as well as our best bodies!
